Reiner Maurer launches his passion project

"ProCoach4All" is designed to make life significantly easier for coaches.

Reiner Maurer travels extensively in the football world: The 1860 Munich legend is currently assistant coach of the Chinese national team. Over the years, he has amassed a wealth of experience, and channeled it into ProCoach4All: a platform for coaches of all ages and skill levels, designed to make training sessions more efficient and easier to plan. FuPa spoke at length with Reiner Maurer and co-founder Erik Altmann about the project.

How did the idea for ProCoach4All come about?

During my playing and coaching career, I worked with many qualified coaches from numerous countries. This led to a large number of game and training drills, which I saved as graphics and descriptions. However, it was later difficult for me to immediately grasp the exact training sequence from the graphic. Therefore, in 2018, I began adding animations to make them easier to understand.

In youth development, I frequently exchanged ideas with Marc Schweinshaupt, who had coached at various youth academies. When I became coach at Türk Gücü München in 2019, I used animations to present the upcoming training content to the players before each session, eliminating lengthy explanations and allowing us to immediately implement new drills. Through ongoing discussions with fellow coaches, I was often told that this method would be extremely beneficial for many coaches.

From idea to implementation: how did development proceed?

The path from idea to implementation was above all: very complex. First, I compiled and systematically processed training and game formats. The next step was to translate this content into an animated format so that it would be quickly understandable and immediately usable for coaches. The challenge lay not only in the time commitment but, above all, in the technical implementation. A central idea from the outset was to give coaches the opportunity to plan their training in a structured way with minimal effort, all the way to an automated master plan that can cover entire training periods. It was in this context that we came into contact with Erik.

Who is actually behind ProCoach4All?

ProCoach4All is primarily the brainchild of Reiner, who developed the training concept over many years based on his work in competitive football. My role was to build the organizational and financial structures. I brought together the right partners for implementation, set up the company, and organized the sales aspects. Through my various roles at TSV 1860 Munich, I also have a very good understanding of the requirements and structures in football, which helped to keep the project practical. ProCoach4All was born from the combination of Reiner's professional expertise and the structural implementation. (Erik Altmann, Co-Founder)

Which target group are you aiming for?

ProCoach4All is fundamentally designed to be used by any football coach, from youth coaches to adult coaches, and of course also in girls' and women's football. In practice, however, we see that the greatest benefit lies primarily in amateur football. Many coaches have jobs, families, and other commitments in addition to coaching, and this is precisely where the program comes in: it helps to plan training sessions much faster and more structured, and takes over a large part of the time-consuming preparation. At the same time, we place great emphasis on the high quality of the content. ProCoach4All can also be a useful supplement for coaches at higher levels, especially when it comes to new ideas or additional training concepts.

What are the advantages of ProCoach4All?

The major advantage lies in the animations. These allow coaches and players to immediately understand what they need to pay attention to in each exercise and how the players should implement it. Players can access the animations in advance and familiarise themselves with the sequences, allowing for faster communication and more efficient session design.

The coach can easily compile their training session from over 1,200 game and training exercises in a very short time, filtered by number of players, age group, and training objectives. They can also access complete sessions from over 8,000 pre-made training units tailored to their squad, and adjust training on the pitch within a minute in case of injuries or other changes.
